US STOCKS were mixed, with blue-chips jumping to a record close while technology shares fell amid jitters about an earnings report from computer chip giant Intel. The Dow Jones ended up 55.5 points, or 0.54 per cent, at 10,395.01. The Nasdaq Composite shed 15.33 points, or 0.59 per cent, to close at 2,583.48.

After the market closed Intel reported a rise in first-quarter earnings to $2bn, beating analysts' forecasts, although sales of $7.1bn were below expectations.
