Around the World's Markets: New York
WALL STREET was mixed; technology shares rallied while the Dow slipped amid a big fall in AT&T after its MediaOne bid. The Dow ended off 37.51 points, 0.35 per cent, at 10,689.67.
But the Nasdaq Composite, which began the week with its second-worst points drop ever, ended it near its record high close, up on the day by 28.91 points, 1.13 per cent, at 2,590.52. The hi-tech rally reflected new excitement after IBM's strong earnings report on Wednesday.
