THE DOW JONES index rose to a record for a second day as investors bought shares of manufacturers such as Alcoa and DuPont, encouraged by reports indicating faster growth in US factory orders and Japan's economy.
The Dow gained 13.74 to 10,845.45. McKesson HBOC plunged after the largest US drug wholesaler restated earnings. America Online led Internet shares down, leaving the broader US market mixed. The Nasdaq dropped 52.15 to 2,550.26.
