US STOCKS fell after the National Association of Purchasing Management's index of manufacturing activity showed a sharper than expected rise.

The strong data triggered further fears of an interest rate increase at the end of the month.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average of leading stocks was down by more than 100 points at 10457 in late afternoon trading - with computer stocks weaker.
