WALL STREET stocks made modest advances as the chemical giant Du Pont led the action in a quiet day for economic news. By mid-morning, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 24 points at 11,150.

Du Pont, a component of the Dow-30, was up $4-1/16 at $72-11/16 after setting the terms for the spin-off of its remaining interest in Conoco.

The deal represents a premium of 18 per cent based on Thursday's closing prices.
