US STOCKS closed mixed, with the Nasdaq hitting a record high and the Dow Jones index falling as investors shifted more money into technology stocks.

The Dow closed off 26.92 points, or 0.24 per cent, at 11,148.10. The Nasdaq index rose 39.66 points, or 1.43 per cent, to a record 2,817.89 on the back of a strong performance by computer chip maker Intel. Intel reported disappointing second-quarter earnings, but Wall Street was cheered by the company's buoyant third-quarter prospects.
