US STOCKS rose for the first time this week, led by computer-related shares such as Microsoft Corp, as Internet companies reported better-than- expected results.

The Dow Jones index rose 6.65, or 0.1 per cent, to 11,002.78. The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 2.19, or 0.2 per cent, to 1,379.29, led by Microsoft.

The Nasdaq index climbed 29.59, or 1.1 per cent, to 2,761.77. All three indexes had not risen since Friday, when they touched records.
