THE NASDAQ climbed to its eighth record in nine sessions after Cisco Systems, the largest maker of Internet equipment, reported earnings at the high end of forecasts, but the Dow average fell for a second day.
The Nasdaq climbed 30.96 points, 1 per cent, to a record 3,156. It rose as high as 3,186 in the day. The S&P500, where Cisco passed Wal-Mart to become the fourth-ranking stock, rose 0.6 per cent to 1,373.46, but the Dow dropped 19.58 to 10,597.74.
