WALL STREET was up in early trading as strong momentum lifted the market despite an approaching Federal Reserve meeting that could bring an interest rate hike.

The Dow Jones was up 19 points, or 0.19 per cent, at 10,617. The Nasdaq was up 29 points, or 0.94 per cent, to 3,185, after setting record closes in eight out of the last nine trading sessions.

Analysts are split over whether a 25-basis points rate hike will be adopted by the Fed on Tuesday.
