US STOCKS fell with bonds on concern the economy is growing fast enough to prompt the Federal Reserve to keep raising interest rates.

Financial shares including American Express and Citigroup led the decline. The Dow Jones index fell 49.24, or 0.5 per cent, to 10,883.09.

The Nasdaq index had its busiest day ever, as 1.64 billion shares changed hands. It fell 26.90, or 0.8 per cent, to 3,269.02.
