Around the World's Markets: New York
A BENIGN US employment report lured buyers out on Wall Street yesterday, sending stocks sharply higher at midday. After the data, the market extended a tentative recovery from Tuesday's drubbing when the Dow industrials slid 299 points.
Technical factors were seen as one of the major forces pushing the market higher. By 6pm BST the blue chip Dow Jones Industrials was up 86.25 at 8663.4. The broader Russell 2000 index of smaller stocks chalked up a rise of almost 3 per cent.
