WALL STREET ended sharply lower on fears that the deepening Russian crisis will infect other emerging markets, with particular concern felt for Latin American markets. Investors are concerned that the US will not be immune to the effects of a spreading global slowdown.

The Dow closed down 79.30 points at 8,523.25, and the Nasdaq was off 30.08 points at 1,768.09. The S&P500 fell by 8.67 points to 1,084.18.
