JAPANESE STOCKS suffered a mixed day as profit-taking in high- flying telecom stocks such as NTT Docomo petered out.
The Nikkei 225 rose 18.46 points, or 0.1 per cent, to 18,514.41, while the TOPIX index of all first-section shares fell 9.38 points, or 0.58 per cent, to 1,601.93.
Gains in automakers were prompted by news that Fuji Heavy Industries had entered into talks with foreigh carmakers including General Motors.
