TELECOMS rose, led by NTT Mobile Communications Network, after the stock's three-day drop lured investors attracted by its potential for expansion overseas. NTT climbed 3.1 per cent to 3.29m yen after the company agreed to buy 19 per cent of Hutchison Whampoa, the Hong Kong wireless business, on Thursday.
The Nikkei 225 average fell 146.27 points, or 0.8 per cent, to 18,368.14. The broader Topix index rose 9.32, or 0.6 per cent, to 1,611.25 points.
