TOKYO STOCKS rose widely on Monday, led by major high-technology stocks, as investor confidence was boosted by Wall Street's strong performance last week. The Nikkei average finished up 139.06 points - 0.76 per cent - at 18,507.20.
The yen's brief dip against the US dollar in reaction to weaker-than- expected Japanese economic growth data for the July-September quarter, announced just before the market opened, also spurred buying of high-techs.
