Researchers at Imperial College, London have developed a fermentation process to turn straw into ethanol. About half the straw produced in the UK is turned into paper pulp, but farmers have no easy way of disposing of the rest. Dr Namdar Baghaei-Yazdi, project leader, says the process could revolutionise the energy industry.
