NOW WE know how City lawyers make their money. When Sir Phil Harris was preparing the flotation prospectus for Carpetright, the lawyers got excessively fussy. Could he prove he had actually sold his previous concern, Harris Queensway? Harris duly produced a mass of press cuttings, but the lawyers were not satisfied and dispatched him to dig out the share transfers. And the twist? The same lawyer who gave him such stick had previously worked on the sale of Harris Queensway to Lowndes.
