EDDIE STOBART, the boss of one of Britain's largest privately owned haulage companies, has been banned from driving and fined pounds 325 following an appearance at Penrith magistrates court.

Stobart, 39, whose firm's policy is never to exceed 56mph, was nabbed on the M6 near Carlisle doing 86mph through roadworks.

Never mind; Stobart is nothing if not popular with his public. His haulage firm has climbed to cult status with motorway users - 7,000 people have joined the Eddie Stobart Fan Club since it was established four years ago.
