WHEN Richard Branson sold Virgin Music to Thorn EMI he held on to the music retail side of the business, which competes directly (and fiercely) with HMV, owned incidentally by Thorn EMI.

Branson should be feeling rather nervous as he eyes HMV's latest move in Glasgow though.

The Thorn subsidiary has just acquired a prime retail site in the City and in the process become landlords to Virgin Retail.

I do hope HMV behave themselves as landlords. The British Airways dirty tricks story is quite enough.
