ASH award for Co-op

The Co-operative Bank has won an award from Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) and the British Heart Foundation for its policy of not providing financial services to tobacco manufacturers. The Co-op started an ethical lending campaign last year promising customers it would not do business with organisations involved in activities such as blood sports, tobacco production and factory farming.

Arrows debt agreement

Muhammed Naviede, the Manchester businessman whose trade finance company Arrows collapsed with debts of pounds 220m two years ago, has reached an arrangement with his bankers on debts totalling more than pounds 100m.

Luxury listing

Cliveden, the Michelin-rated luxury hotel and country club group based on the former estate of the Astor family, is obtaining a stock market listing through a reverse takeover of Ifico, a pounds 5.1m cash shell. Some 70 per cent of the equity in the new company, Cliveden plc, will be held by the founders, John Lewis and John Tham.
