MMC TO INVESTIGATE MUSIC BUSINESS
The Monopolies and Mergers Commission is to conduct an investigation into the pricing of compact discs, records and cassettes.
The Office of Fair Trading is set to announce a referral of the music business to the MMC on Thursday, just before the Commons National Heritage Select Committee publishes a report on CD pricing.
FLOAT FOR PHONELINK
Phonelink, an information retrieval software company, is set to float on the Unlisted Securities Market within the next two months. The listing, sponsored by Allied Provincial Securities, is expected to value the company at pounds 40m.
SWAN BUYOUT
The management at Swan National, Britain's third-biggest car rental company, is set to buy the business from its parent, TSB, in a deal understood to be worth more than pounds 100m.
