CITY DIARY

Celtic, the Glaswegian football club, has recruited two new hard men to its midfield: Brian Quinn, who retires as head of the Bank of England's banking supervision and surveillance at the end of the month; and Sir Patrick Sheehy, just retired as chairman of BAT Industries. Celtic has made them non-executive directors and hopes they will help its expansion plans.

The club is already listed on AIM. Mr Quinn was born and grew up in Glasgow and gained fame at the Bank for his role in the supervision of Johnson Matthey Bank, BCCI and Barings. Sir Patrick has worked in many countries all over the world, and sports the Brazilian Order of the Southern Cross as well as the French Legion d'Honneur.
