RATNERS is planning to issue a truly dreadful trading statement this week, according to rumours in the industry. Sales over the all-important Christmas trading period are said to have been awful - in some stores down by 35 per cent. The search is on with a vengeance for a new chief executive to replace Gerald Ratner, but survival is still touch and go.
