Hotels are always keen to play up their green credentials and Bill Clinton, the tourism conference's star turn, did his best to help the Jumeirah Group emphasise its own.

The former US president told delegates it was 60 years since he last went to bed with a stuffed animal, referring to Rimini, a turtle put in many of the Jumeirah's best rooms to publicise its rehabilitation programme for the creatures.

Last year, Jumeirah nursed 200 hawksbill and green sea turtles back to health and released them into the Arabian Gulf. It's a small but significant project, and better than just asking demanding hotel guests on Abu Dhabi's corniche to forgo their daily fresh linen.
