Outlook Liv Garfield's ascension to the board at Tesco is one of the more interesting corporate appointments of the year. A few years shy of 40, the mother of two (amazing how I wouldn't even think of writing 'father of two') is surely on the cusp of the big time.
Ms Garfield is currently in charge of BT Openreach, which is spending £2.5bn across the UK on a superfast broadband roll-out programme to replace the old copper network. By almost any measure, that is the equivalent of a FTSE 250 job – which can only mean that a senior FTSE 100 post is next.
