COOKSON, the specialist engineering group, has bought two American manufacturing firms, Accel and Matrix, for pounds 8.9m and pounds 7.8m in cash respectively.

Accel makes specialty cleaning systems for the electronic component packaging and surface mount technology segments of the electronics industry. Matrix makes micron-tolerance precision engineered products.
