The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged to a record close yesterday as some nervous investors fled to the safety of blue chip companies and shed semiconductor stocks amid continued fears of looming supply problems. After shedding 29 points on Monday and Tuesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended up 56 points at 4,853.
