Fake seizures doubled

Seizures of counterfeit goods have more than doubled in the last two years, suggesting the UK's market in fakes is worth pounds 300m. Trading standards officers last year seized forged goods worth pounds 30m, according to the Economic and Social Research Council. The council said product counterfeiting was no longer a cottage industry. It now involved teams of highly organised gangs which import component parts, rather than finished goods, to evade detection by customs officials.
