UK BUSINESSES are wasting eight million days a year by writing cheques instead of opting for more modern methods of payment, a survey claimed yesterday. According to BACS, the automated payment clearing service, if companies paid suppliers by electronic transfer rather than by cheque, they could raise and reconcile payments up to five times more quickly.
