The first European-made Toyota to go on sale comes off the line at the Japanese company's pounds 840m plant at Burnaston, near Derby, as Kosuke Ikebuchi and Yasuo Matsushima, senior managers from Burnaston's 'mother plant', at Tsutsumi in Japan, give the Carina E a thumbs-up for quality. The factory is the biggest single foreign manufacturing investment in Britain, and should eventually employ 3,000 workers.
