French economy slows

Figures on consumer purchases of manufactured goods confirmed the signs of slowdown in the French economy. The 2.3 per cent year-on-year drop and 4.4 per cent monthly declines were the biggest for nearly two years. There were no signs of weakness in the trade figures for September. The surplus was FF7.9bn.
