GA chief's pay rises by a third

Nelson Robertson, group chief executive of General Accident, the insurer, saw his total pay leap by almost a third last year to £442, 075. The package, which compared with 1993's £348,481, included a performance-related bonus of £68,750 (£18,300). But total board pay at the company fell slightly from £2.27m to £2.23m, even though executive directors' bonuses rose tenfold to £424,427. GA's pre-tax profits jumped sharply from £294.9m to £428.3m last year as the underwriting cycle peaked.
