CARLTON Communications shares tumbled 6 per cent, and lost 7.3 per cent on the week due to concern that the company's ONdigital TV venture with Granada Group is lagging behind BSkyB's rival digital service, analysts said.

"If BskyB is doing so well, then Carlton may not be doing so well [with ONdigital]," said Mathew Horsman, an analyst at Henderson Crosthwaite Institutional Brokers.

ONdigital can be received with a normal TV antenna. Carlton is betting that it will appeal to households that want digital TV's clearer pictures and sound without subscribing to cable TV or installing a satellite dish.
