Goode Report: Review committee's report ends 14 months' work for Oxford law professor

ROY GOODE, who headed the pension law review committee throughout its 14 months of deliberations, is a professor of English law at Oxford University, where he is a fellow of St John's College.

Aged 60, he qualified as a solicitor in 1955 and became a partner in the firm of Victor Mishcon. He is also a barrister, having been called to the bar in 1988. He became a Queen's Counsel two years later.

Professor Goode returned to academia in 1971 as professor of law at the University of London, though he remained as a consultant to Mishcon for the next 17 years. He founded the Centre for Commercial Law Studies in 1980, remaining as director until 1989.

He has served on numerous public bodies, including the Monopolies and Mergers Commission, the Independent Broadcasting Authority's advertising committee, and the council of the banking ombudsman. He has written extensively on consumer credit law and was made an OBE in 1972.
