Greenspan warns of trade danger

ALAN GREENSPAN, chairman of the US Federal Reserve Board, warned yesterday of the danger of creeping protectionism. "I am concerned about the recent evident weakening of support for free trade in this country," said Mr Greenspan (pictured) in a speech. Free trade benefited all countries, he said, and higher US barriers would harm long-term job creation and new technologies. He criticised the adversarial nature of negotiations at the World Trade Organisation.
