Boeing chief Ronald Woodard said a stretch version of the new 777 aircraft could be launched within three months, for initial delivery in May 1998. He was speaking after the issue of US certification for the new twin-engined aircraft to fly up to three hours from the nearest landing site. Extended- range twin-engine operations certification covers the 777 with Pratt & Whitney engines. Boeing aims for similar clearance with GE power by September (when the aeroplane is scheduled for delivery to British Airways) and with Roll-Royce engines in March 1996 - for initial delivery to Cathay Pacific.
