A COMPANY in Surrey has developed a hand-held machine for aerating waterlogged soil to aid drainage. The portable soil decompacter, which could be used for golf courses, sports grounds or nurseries, works by pumping compressed air into the ground. PSD says that the decompacter is powerful enough to drain pools of standing water, yet sensitive enough to work around the roots of young trees.
