THE Motor Industry Research Association has devised a more precise way of testing the crash resistance of cars. Existing test equipment has a matrix of 12 load cells arranged around the impact surface. The Microcell barrier has 488 load cells linked to a computer, which analyses data throughout the crash. The behaviour of various parts of the car can be analysed by grouping the outputs from the load cells.
