LEICESTER General Hospital has set up the first service in Britain to offer rapid diagnosis of potentially cancerous lumps. Rather than an operation, the service, inspired by a clinic in Sweden, uses a fine needle to suck out a sample from the lump. Until now the technique has been available only through hospital consultants; reporting back to GPs saves time.
