BUDGET requests by Japanese ministries and government agencies for the 1993 financial year are expected to total Y77,440bn yen (pounds 313bn), which will be a 7.2 per cent increase on this year.

But the Finance Ministry, which will stop accepting requests tomorrow, is likely to slash demands because of a forecast revenue shortfall.
