The first increase in sales for three years helped Laura Ashley, the clothing retailer, to pre-tax profits of pounds 3m, up 70 per cent. Sales rose 20 per cent to pounds 300m, despite a drop in Europe. Sales in the British stores so far this year, however, are down 4 per cent.
