The financial crisis in Asia has hit Marks & Spencer, which has 10 stores in Hong Kong and franchises in countries such as Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. Its sales in the Far East were down by 23 per cent in the five weeks to 3 January compared with the same period last year.
