Marks & Spencer has shelved plans to open a store at Canary Wharf, the office development in London's Docklands. Negotiations on a 12,000-15,000 sq ft site under the Canada Tower have been broken off.

A spokesman for M&S said: 'In the short term we don't believe that the population build-up will be sufficient.' One-fifth of the 210,000 sq ft of restaurant and retail space at Canary Wharf is let.
