Man U finance chief's contract

DAVID GILL, the finance director of Manchester United, will receive a pay-off worth more than pounds 300,000 if he leaves the club before 30 June 2000.

Under a contract agreed with British Sky Broadcasting, the satellite television group which has tabled a pounds 623m bid for the football club, Mr Gill is entitled to twice his salary and the average of his bonuses for the previous two years if he resigns or is sacked. The contract is disclosed in the document detailing BSkyB's bid. The document also shows that Professor Sir Roland Smith, Manchester United's chairman, will stay on as a consultant until 30 April, while Amer AlMidani, now a non-executive director, will join the board.
