Marketing is granted its own charter
MARKETING professionals are to get their own professional charter, allowing them to call themselves "chartered" and putting them on a par with accountants and surveyors.
This is the first new profession in more than 30 years. The last to be granted full professional status by the Privy Council was engineering, which qualified for its own charter in 1967.
For their new professional status, marketing people have opted to call themselves chartered marketers.
Baroness O'Cathain, former director of London's Barbican arts centre, should become one of the first properly chartered marketers.
It is expected that 2,000 people will qualify initially.
