Belgium demands an inquiry into Opel deal
Belgium wants the European Union to investigate General Motors' sale of its Opel business to the Canadian group Magna International amid suspicions that Germany sought to protect its own plants at the cost of others.
"I think the German government sought its own advantage," said the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister, Joelle Milquet, after it emerged that the Opel plant in Antwerp would be wound down but none would close in Germany. GM's Vauxhall workers are also worried about the future of factories in the UK.
