More people now work part-time than ever. Over 8 million people have now shunned (or been forced out of) the drudgery of a 9 to 5, whether it's to improve work-life balance, create more time for family or earn extra money whilst studying.

While wages have stagnated in the post-financial crisis world, new data showing the highest-paying part-time jobs proves that no one needs to slave away for countless hours a week in order to earn a decent salary.

In fact, the top positions on this list pay more than the average full-time salary.

Which jobs are the best paid?

For those looking to maximise their earnings whilst still keeping time for a life, the mantra should be “education, education, education”, - people working in this field take home the top pay packets for part-time work. Lecturers lead the list, on an average salary of £36,513, while tutors and teaching assistants also feature in the top ten.

Offering an explanation, Glassdoor’s Diarmuid Russell said: “Lecturers are often successful business people or entrepreneurs in their own right, brought in for specific experience in the world of business, politics and the arts. While not everyone has a track record in the private sector, there are opportunities to be had in the academic world for people with the right skills and background.”

At the other end of the spectrum, those in the catering industry can expect to be short-changed. Restaurant managers pocket a median salary of £14,400, while baristas take just £13,600.
