Cable's committed: Minister taxis towards apprentice boost

Vince Cable, the coalition Business Secretary, warns that Britain is heading for a "second credit-crunch" unless the banks lend more.

Mr Cable, who also talks in an exclusive interview about his plans to help rebuild the UK's manufacturing base, will visit the Farnborough International Airshow tomorrow where he will commit to giving the aerospace industry the skills and research base it needs to compete overseas by encouraging young people into engineering apprenticeships. Mr Cable, who will chair regular meetings with aerospace leaders, said: "We need a new generation of inspired workers with the skills and new ideas to push aerospace forward."
