Poundworld has recalled parts of a children's Halloween costume over concerns they could catch fire.

The recall includes the budget chain’s Children’s Hair Raising Mask and Children’s Hair Raising hands.

Both were on sale from early September and was removed from stores late last week when the business learned of the potential issue.

A Poundworld spokesperson said: “Product quality and customer safety is of paramount importance to us. As soon as we learnt about the potential issue, we took immediate action to withdraw them from sale. We’ve since carried out our own independent testing, which has highlighted that the products don’t fully meet the EN71 Toy Safety Standards. We have subsequently issued a full product recall”

Poundworld urges any customers who have bought the costume to return it to their nearest store where they will receive a full refund.

Poundworld’s spokesperson added: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and are currently investigating the issue with our supplier.”

Last year, Poundworld’s competitor Poundland issued a recall of three styles of its Halloween wigs over safety concerns when it found that the products fell below the Toy Safety flammability standard.

The full details of the two products that Poundworld has recalled are as follows:

Children’s Hair Raising Mask, which has the product code M-48488 and barcode 50505774848, all batches.

Children’s Hair Raising Hands, which has the product code M-49080 and barcode 5050577490808, all batches.
