Ikea recalls glass ceiling lampshade over 'laceration fears'

Ikea is recalling two types of ceiling lamps after 224 reports of incidents of clips breaking and glass shades falling from the lamp.

So far 11 people have been injured by the fault with Lock and Hyby lights.

"In a few cases medical treatment was required and one customer reportedly needed stitches," Ikea said.

The Lock and Hyby lines have been sold in all Ikea markets since 2002 and 2012 respectively.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said that the plastic retaining clips that secure the glass shades to the lamp can break and allow the glass shades to fall, posing a "laceration hazard".

Ikea said it took product safety very seriously and apologised for the inconvenience caused.

Buyers of LOCK or HYBY shades are urged to remove them from the ceiling and return them to the store where they will receive a full refund.
